Belize’s best athletes compete in National Athletics Championship today & tomorrow, May 29-30, at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s top athletes are now competing in the National Track and Field Championship which is on today and tomorrow, May 29-30, at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.

Unfortunately, fans are not allowed. The BAA, however, said it would be streaming the events on Facebook.

In the time trials held on Saturday, May 8, at the Marion Jones, Brandon Adolphus won the 5000m and the 1500m while Ana Lopez won the 3000m, the 1500m, and the 800m

Mark Anderson was the fastest in the 100m ahead of Rahim Monsanto (2nd) and Jihad Ahmad (3rd).

Monsanto won the 200m followed by Gary Neal 2nd and Anderson 3rd.

Linden Wade won both the 400m and 800m.

In the 400m, Mario Vivas was 2nd and Jaheim Moguel finished 3rd while in the 800m, Amir Ramos was 2nd and Christopher Broaster 3rd.

Michelle Thiessen won the women’s long jump and Kareem Jenkins, the men’s.

In discus, the men’s winner was Canaan Smith and in the women’s category, Mia Sylvester claimed the top spot.

Sylvester also won the shot put. In the men’s category, Cojac Smith was the winner.

The track events will include: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4x100m, 4x400m, 3000m, 5000m.

The field competitions will include: long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin, shot put, and discus.
