Belize Men’s National Football Team trains today in Managua, Nicaragua prior to World Cup qualifier on Friday

Posted: Wednesday, June 2, 2021. 11:13 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) is conducting its first training on Nicaraguan soil this evening at 5 in preparation for its World Cup qualifier against Nicaragua at 7 pm on Friday.

After traveling by road, the BMNT arrived in Nicaragua on Monday and rested that day and on Tuesday.

“The team is doing great, we train this evening,” said BMNT captain Deon McCaulay. “We did pool recovery and massage yesterday.”

“We start game preparation today,” said BMNT Head Coach Dale Pelayo. “We had two days of rest, we came in on Monday and we rested, we rested yesterday and we had a recovery pool session.”

Pelayo said that they are now concentrating all their effort on Friday’s game which is a must-win for the BMNT.

“Today our focus is on the game. We have our first training session today at five and tomorrow we have the official training on the pitch of the National Stadium, but we are focused on the game, from today we will be moving forward. Tomorrow we have our final training at seven pm, the time of the game.”

Belize plays against Nicaragua at the National Stadium in Managua on Friday at 7 pm.

Win, lose or draw, this could very well be Belize’s last game in the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers. But a win gives the BMNT hope that if the numbers fall into our favor, we could win the group, which also includes Haiti and Turks and Caicos Islands, and qualify for the next round. Far chance, but six points (Belize already has 3) give us a mathematical possibility.
