Denmark drop Czech Republic 2-1 on their way to the Euro semifinals

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In Saturday’s first quarterfinal at Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan, Denmark downed the Czech Republic 2-1 qualifying to the Euro 2020 semifinals where they will meet either England or Ukraine.

The Danes who have rebounded extremely well after losing Christian Eriksen, who had a heart attack in the first game, controlled the match against the Czech Republic, getting on the scoreboard in the 5th minute off a set play.

Midfielder Thomas Delaney hit a header off a pass by Jens Stryger beating Czech keeper Tomáš Vaclík.

In the 42nd minute, Kasper Dolberg extended the Danish lead to 2-0 but no sooner had the game restarted than Patrik Schick put the match within reach with his 5th goal of the tournament, same as Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally.

But Denmark were able to hold the lead all the way to the final whistle.

The Danish players celebrated wildly as Denmark had not qualified to the Euro semifinals since 1992, 25 years ago, when they won the tournament.
