By Aaron Humes: This time last year, Patrick Faber was on the edge of redemption, closing in on his ultimate goal.
Today, he is in the fight of his political life, challenged by those in his party he says are motivated by greed and ambition, but who say he has not been doing a good job in charge.
521 delegates will decide in a contest ongoing at the Birds’ Isle, Belize City.
By party rules, a two-thirds majority, or 344 delegates, must vote to recall Faber. If this happens a leadership convention – the UDP’s third in 18 months – will proceed; if not, he remains in charge.
Faber has already been edged out of the seat of Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives and his most recent choice for the Senate removed by successor Moses “Shyne” Barrow.
The convention is unprecedented and we will have coverage throughout the day and the results and reaction as they happen.
