20 unvaccinated patients in Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital COVID wards; docs plea for vaccination

By Aaron Humes: Chairman of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA) Dr. Andre Sosa has told The Reporter newspaper that none of the 20 patients on the hospital’s COVID-19 ward were vaccinated.

With the hospital announcing that it has gone back to emergency mode as of Monday, canceling outpatient clinics and postponing elective surgeries, Dr. Sosa made a plea for unvaccinated persons to take the jab and limit further strain on the hospital’s already slender resources.

“There are sufficient vaccines for everyone and I would beg people to please go out and get vaccinated. We’re asking people now to get their second jab at eight weeks; don’t wait for the twelfth week because with one jab you’re not very well protected against the Delta variant,” Dr. Sosa told The Reporter, and Dr. Sosa noted that he expects a further surge in cases.

Worryingly, Sosa explained that even people who have only gotten one shot of the vaccination so far can experience some of the more severe symptoms if they happen to contract the deadlier and more easily transmissible Delta variant.
