Verdes boosting up with five more foreigners, Spanish coach for Scotiabank Concacaf League

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes this week welcomed five more foreign players as they prepare to compete in the Scotiabank Concacaf League.

Verdes will be playing home and away games against Costa Rican club Santos de Guápiles. The first match is set for the FFB Field in Belmopan on Thursday, August 5.

There is no official word yet if the Government will allow contact sports next month, but Verdes are going ahead with their plan for the Concacaf participation.

Recently they signed Spanish coach David Pérez Sr. who’s said in an international article that Verdes players are good technically but lack depth tactically.

A month ago when Concacaf announced the tournament schedule, Verdes welcomed back Mexican midfielder Edwin Villeda Bernal.

On Monday, Verdes announced five more foreign players, namely Mexicans Ronaldo Herrera (forward), Christian Sánchez (defender) and Jorge Sánchez (defender), Paraguayan forward Junior Vargas and Colombian midfielder Camilo Márquez Fajardo.

The arrival of so many foreign players means that quite a number of the Belizean players will have to warm the bench.

The return leg against Santos is to be played in Costa Rica on Wednesday, August 18.
