By BBN Staff: A Belize City man who conned a businessman out of $2,000 managed to escape prison time in court today by striking a deal with the complainant.
Elihugh Pitts, 39, was charged with obtaining property by deception, with respect to $2,000 cash he got from businessman Juan Vega, promising to assist him with obtaining a firearms license.
Vega had filed a report to police stating that they had the transaction back on June 2 but has since not gotten the license or his money returned. In court, Vega told the Magistrate that he did not want any court action because Pitt’s mother had paid him back the full amount.
With that, the matter was struck down and Pitts was free to go.
