By Benjamin Flowers: Contact sports are still not allowed in Belize as COVID-19 cases continue to surge.
Today, Minister of Youth, Sports & E-governance Kevin Bernard, explained that the only reason authorities allowed the Verdes FC game today was because Belize has international obligations to Concacaf and could face sanctions if the game was not played. He stressed that one of the main requirements for the approval of the game was that all players had to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (received two vaccine doses).
“I want to reiterate the position that at this point in time contact sports we are still not allowing contact sports, it is only under these special circumstances that we allow it, but the players must be fully vaccinated,” Bernard said.
He went on to say that all associations representing the various sporting disciplines should take heed and ensure that all their players are fully vaccinated before they approach the Ministry of Sports about lifting requirements and allowing them to play.
