Unions say they want seat at COVID-19 response team table

Posted: Monday, September 13, 2021. 10:54 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) has written to Prime Minister John Briceño to say that they have, accidentally perhaps, been left off the National Medical COVID-19 Response Team formed immediately after the general election.

The Unions had been represented on the prior COVID-19 National Oversight Committee and are asking for representation on the new body.

President Luke Martinez points out that most COVID victims are from the Labour force and that other social partners are represented but the unions are not.

This follows the Opposition being asked to name a representative after failing to do so in the aftermath of the committee’s formation.
