Belize City adds 135 new cases; exempt zones add 17 combined

By Aaron Humes: If you’re looking for safe places to go for Independence Day on Tuesday and for the weekend, the old reliables of San Pedro Town, Caye Caulker, Placencia, and Hopkins are still more reliable than most.

Together they reported 17 new cases over the three-day weekend – nine, four, two, and two respectively.

By contrast, Belize City reported 135 of the mainland Belize District’s 169 cases; Orange Walk Town, 20 of that district’s cases of 37; San Ignacio 12 and Santa Elena 3 of Cayo’s 75 cases, Belmopan and subdivisions 11 and Spanish Lookout two. Even Punta Gorda is a worry again with 17 of Toledo’s 46 new cases.

The Ministry of Health reiterates that true safety lies in following the public health protocols of handwashing, mask-wearing, and social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings, and getting vaccinated if and when you can.
