Police seeking prime suspect in the murder of 15-year-old Dwayne Gabourel

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department says that they have one suspect being sought in connection with the shooting of 15-year-old Dwayne Gabourel, which took place in Belize City on Saturday evening.

This morning, Commissioner of Police Chester Willimas, who was visibly outraged, addressed the media and the nation to give an update on the investigation. Williams said that police have reviewed surveillance footage from a number of cameras in the area to determine the identity of the suspect, who remains at large at this time.

“We have a good idea of who it is and somehow the monster went into hiding,” Williams said. “But we have all efforts out to locate him and I am hopeful that very soon we are going to find him.”

Williams also said that investigators are still in the area speaking to potential witnesses, as the police are seeking to build a strong case to ensure conviction.

He pleaded with the public to cooperate so that justice can be served for Gabourel, who he described as a “promising young man.”

Gabourel was shot to the upper body while at a grocery store at the corner of New Road and Picktsock Street on Saturday and died of his injuries early this morning.
