Teachers’ Union: No more “half-hearted efforts” on crime

Posted: Monday, September 27, 2021. 10:39 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) has challenged the Government to go further than “half-hearted efforts” and “cosmetic changes” in addressing crime and gang violence.

In a statement the Union says it stands with all who have been crying out for justice and that Government must be swift and efficient. It observes that the criminals seem to be one step ahead in terms of manpower and resources and warns that because so many have had enough, street justice must not become the order of the day.

The Union also extends its sympathy to the family of the late Dwayne Gabourel and calls on Police to thoroughly investigate and serve justice.
