By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “It was a gripping experience walking with our frontline health workers through the hospital and appreciating the challenges facing them,” said Prime Minister John Briceño of his visit to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) earlier this week.
“My presence with them was an expression of our commitment and my personal conviction that we must continue to give the necessary support to the KHMH (Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital).”
During his visit, the Prime Minister saw how the personnel at the KHMH take care of the patients, in particular the COVID-19 patients.
“By now most of our families have been touched by Covid-19….either having someone ill, such as a friend or a relative. Unfortunately, some of us have lost family members, life partners, children, relatives, friends…we are all suffering the impact of this global pandemic, now a national scourge,” said the Prime Minister.
“My visit today at the KHMH (Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital) was to show support for the work our frontline workers are performing daily without any real rest and to share my love and concern for our people who are fighting the symptoms and illnesses of the virus.”
Prime Minister Briceño again made a call for people to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols to protect their families and to seek out the right information and get vaccinated. This, he said, will help to reduce the high numbers in the hospitals and the number of deaths. Vaccines, he said, are a line of defense and protection from severe illness.
“Please, I appeal to Belizeans, please get vaccinated as soon as you possibly can. That’s the only way we can go back to some sort of normalcy in this country where we can be able to open the economy more and people can work to look after their families and to help to develop this country,” he said.
