Mayor Sheran Palacio organizes two diabetes events: Zacharias-Palacio Diabetes Center, Diabetes Run

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belmopan Mayor Sheran Palacio is doubling on her Diabetes Platform this weekend organizing two events.

The first is the launching of the Zacharias-Palacio Diabetes Center at the American Northwest University in the nation’s capital on Friday, November 12, and the second is her 7th Annual Diabetes Run on Sunday, November 14.

The Zacharias-Palacio Diabetes Center is a dream come true for Mayor Palacio. The Mayor said she is happy to be delivering on a 20-year dream. She recalled taking her diabetic father to Cuba for him to learn the basics of the disease.

She said the launching of the first diabetes center “will be a historic day in the nation’s capital”.

“Through this center Belmopan diabetes advocates and diabetics will have better access to diabetes summits and care,” she said.

Then, on Sunday. Mayor Palacio will be leading the 26-mile Diabetes Run.

The run takes off from the Belmopan Market Square at 6:30 am en route to Palacio’s Mountain Retreat in St Margaret’s Village at Mile 30 on the Hummingbird Highway. Mayor Palacio said runners have until Saturday midday to register for the run. Interested runners may get in touch with Mystery Sylven Furtado at 615-7287.

The Diabetes Run is a relay-type run. Registered Runners will take on the 26 miles Diabetes Awareness Run sharing a mile per runner.

All runners are expected to arrive at the Palacio’s Mountain Retreat by midday.
