Belize featured twice on International Living’s best islands for retirees

By Benjamin Flowers: The lifestyle publication International Living (IL) has featured not one but two of Belize’s islands on its list of recommendations for best islands in the world for retirees to settle down.

“Here we’ve hand-picked 15 islands, scattered around the globe that make for an affordable retirement. All are locales where you can find privacy, peace, a simpler way of life, and strong communities,” IL said in its recently published article ‘The 15 Best Islands in the World to Retire On’.

The article highlighted Ambergris Caye at the Number 4 spot and Caye Caulker at the Number 14 spot. Mexico was the only other country to be mentioned twice on the list. The top three spots on the list were captured by Malta; Mallorca, Spain; and Penang, Malaysia respectively.

With respect to Ambergris Caye, IL emphasized the island’s “stunning turquoise seascapes,” and also mentioned the active nightlife.

For Caye Caulker, IL said, “This island is known for its stunning seascapes, diverse water sports, eco-tours, and friendly community.”

Belize being featured among such prominent destinations as well as earning two spots on the list stands testament to the growing popularity not just as a tourism destination, but a place people from around the world are seriously considering moving to. The positive international mention will also serve to bolster campaigns underway to promote Belize internationally, as efforts to recover the tourism sector from the ravages of COVID-19 continue.
