Man scams woman out of $20,000 for a vehicle and tires that she never saw

By BBN Staff: A Belize City woman has lost over $20,000 to an alleged con man who promised her a vehicle and new tires but never delivered them.

The man accused of the crime, 27-year-old, Jordan Gerald Morey, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with obtaining property by deception from the victim.

The woman reported to police that on November 19, 2021, she gave Morey $21,700.00 to purchase a vehicle. She further added that on December 20, 2021, she gave him $2,500.00 for the purchase of tires, but up to the time of her filing the police report, she had seen neither the vehicle nor the tires she paid for.

Morey, a Mechanic/Car dealer of Fabers Road Extension pleaded not guilty to both charges, and since there was no objection to bail, he was offered bail in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same which he met around 2:00 this afternoon.

Morey is due back in court on March 21, 2022.
