By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) on Friday congratulated three national team players for “amazing opportunities they’ve received through football” – namely Jayda Brown, Izon Gill, and Michael Salazar.
“Through FFBs partnership with Prospect2Player, Izon Gill has been awarded a Full Scholarship to pursue the NAIA program at University of Northwestern Ohio while participating in their Men’s Soccer Program,” said the FFB in a press release.
Twenty-two-year-old Gill who has already played for the senior Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) as a midfielder will be pursuing an Associates Degree in Sports Management.
The FFB also congratulated senior Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) forward and 2021 NAWL top goal scorer Jayda Brown. Brown received the Golden Boot trophy for scoring 15 goals in the last NAWL championship.
“At 22 years, Jayda has completed her bachelor’s degree and has officially committed to attending Campbellsville University in Kentucky where she will be doing a master’s degree in Criminal Justice,” said the FFB.
The FFB also recognized Michael Salazar who signed for the LA Galaxy, the third MLS club he’s going to be playing for.
“Lastly, we take this opportunity to congratulate National Team player Michael Salazar who has been signed to LA Galaxy of Los Angeles after being scouted at Belize’s most recent game against Nicaragua. Worthy to note is that LA Galaxy is the most recognizable Major League Soccer (MLS) club,” said the FFB.
The FFB said it congratulates the athletes for their achievements and “takes this time to encourage other athletes to continue working toward their dreams”.
