By Aaron Humes: The third supplementary appropriation for the 2021-2022 fiscal year, valued at more than $70 million, includes a quarter-million dollars for the upgrading of the Prime Minister’s office and Cabinet Room at the Sir Edney Cain Building and more than forty-five thousand is for office furniture and equipment.
Sounds like a lot of money, but Prime Minister John Briceno told reporters on Friday that it is easier than having to have Cabinet meetings in Belize City where there is more room but a longer commute time to get back to work: “The way the Cabinet Room is, it’s narrow and not long enough, so we’re trying to widen it and make it longer so that everybody can fit with the spacing that is necessary to have.”
Nearly all of the People’s United Party contingent to the House of Representatives are Ministers with a few being Ministers of State.
