Man who pulled a gun on a woman walks free after victim forgave him and dropped charges

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man accused of pulling a gun on a woman is lucky to be out of prison tonight after the complainant decided to drop the charges against him.

Thirty-one-year-old Michael Gladden appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, and was looking at a minimum of three months on remand at the Belize Central Prison if he was unable to secure Supreme Court bail within a week.

The complainant initially reported to police that, on Saturday, February 19, Gladden pulled a gun on her and pointed it in her face.

However, moments after Gladden’s charge was read to him in court, the complainant appeared to say that she did not want any further legal action against him.

The prosecution asked her several questions, including if she was promised any consideration in exchange for dropping the charges, and if she was being threatened. She said that she was dropping the charges of her own free will, and with that, the case was struck down and Gladden was free to go.
