Stevedores compare Port of Belize to President Putin on payment maneuvers

Posted: Thursday, February 24, 2022. 12:34 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Christian Workers Union (CWU) President, Evan “Mose” Hyde compared the Port of Belize Limited’s management to Vladimir Putin’s planning to invade Ukraine in that they were lying in wait to intercept the monies delivered by the Government.

The Union has no stop order from any court and its agreement with Government is in public view, so “we have not done anything illegal and we have not done anything in the dark.”

Hyde committed to providing to the press its communication on updated hours of work, noting that he asked for virtual meetings in order to calm tensions because after the filing of the lawsuit the defendants face questions as to whether they are in real trouble.

Hyde further committed to continue negotiations on the matter of hours of work because it is in the interest of all but noted that the losses will continue to be great and that at least one company has shifted operations to Big Creek Port. The Government, it must not be forgotten, has had members dismissed and told to find other jobs. So the mantra of the Union is “trust no one.”
