Police find two men in pickup stolen during Hattieville home invasion

By BBN Staff: Police have detained two men from Bullet Tree in the Cayo district, for driving a vehicle that was reported stolen during a home invasion in Hattieville on Sunday morning.

Theodore Gabpourel reported to police that around 12:30 a.m. he awoke to the sound of someone yelling “Police” in his house. Upon making checks, he found himself with a shotgun pointed to his face.

Three men then proceeded to tie him, his common-law wife, and his daughter, who is a minor. The men searched his home and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, then made off with his grey 2014 Toyota Hilux pickup truck.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that all checkpoints were alerted immediately after Gabourel made his police report sometime after 4:30 a.m. Yearwood said that the checkpoint in Bullet Tree falls later stopped a pickup matching the description, and made checks to learn that it was the same vehicle.

The men were detained pending charges which, thus far, are only in relation to the vehicle.

“The least we are looking at for them is handling stolen goods and theft,” Yearwood said, ” and we’re hoping to get more to charge them for the aggravated burglary itself.”

Gabourel was injured, though not severely during the invasion, however, his family was unharmed.
