By BBN Staff: Twenty-one-year-old Chervin Tench was remanded to the Belize Central Prison last week over charges of illegal firearms and ammunition possession, but the Belize Police Department says more serious charges may be ahead of Tench in the future.

Tench was arraigned on Friday, March 11, answering to two counts of kept unlicensed firearm, and two counts of kept unlicensed ammunition, and was remanded to jail until May 9.

Today, Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that Tench is one of several people being investigated in a shooting near Logwood Street, Belize City, last week.

“He was caught with a firearm. Whether or not he will be charged [with] additional charges, the firearm charges are a holding charge. It allows us to investigate properly with due diligence…” Yearwood said.

The incident being investigated as a shooting on March 8, when police say four men affiliated with the PIV gang went into Locke Alley to commit a murder, but ended up in a shootout that claimed the life of 23-year-old Carrel Sanchez.

Reports are that Tench was connected to that incident.

Investigations into the matter continue.
