By BBN Staff: Twenty-year-old Earl Baptist was arraigned in court today, for the murder of Burrell Boom businessman Leslie Gillett.

Baptist appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser to answer to be read a single charge of murder.

The allegation against him is that on January 21, he entered Matilda’s Mini Mart in Burrell Boom Village, Belize District, and shot Gillett several times, killing him on the spot.

In court, no plea was taken and Baptist was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance in May.

Police say that Baptist is one of two people connected to the crime. The other is currently still at large.
