Fourth suspect in robbery/wounding of Jamaican national claims he had nothing to do with the incident

Posted: Monday, March 14, 2022. 9:47 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The fourth suspect accused of robbing and stabbing 55-year-old Jamaican national Denham Roy Sr. has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Ladyville resident, 21-year-old, Patrick Canelo was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with one count of wounding and one count of robbery.

In court, Canelo pleaded not guilty to the charges, claiming that he was not even in Ladyville at the time the incident occurred.

Bail was denied and Canelo was remanded to jail until May 10, where he joins co-accused James Bainton, Jeremiah Bainton, and Tanisha Bainton, who were all remanded last week.

The allegation against the group of four is that they robbed Roy at knifepoint on the night of March 9, stealing from him $4,500 in cash and a $200 cellphone. During the ordeal, Roy was also stabbed. Police have since recovered the knife believed to be used in the incident.
