Stann Creek capture the FFB Elite Women’s U17 National Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Khalydia Velasquez converted a hat trick to lead the Stann Creek District Women’s U17 Selection to a 3-1 victory over the Belmopan Selection 3-1 to capture the FFB Elite Women’s U20 National Championship at the FFB Stadium on Saturday.

Heidy Lopez opened the score in favour of the Belmopan side in the third minute.

Tournament MVP Khalydia Velasquez tied the ballgame in the 21st and it remained a tight game until the 75th when she scored the game-winner. She hit one more for comfort in the 89th.

Apart from the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, Velasquez also received the Golden Boot as the top scorer. Belinda Linarez was named best goalkeeper and was given the Golden Gloves award while Shamika Lambey got the Best Defender award.
