Belize District win FFB Elite Men’s U17 National Championship in penalty shootout

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize District Men’s U17 Selection won the FFB Elite Men’s U17 National Championship in a penalty shootout over the Midsouth at the FFB Stadium on Saturday.

The match was the best final of the four the FFB held on the weekend in Belmopan with eight goals scored during 120 minutes of play.

Regulation ended in a 3-3 draw as Flayden Carter (11’), Jaymion Cacho (15’), and Stiven Rivera (37’) converted for the Belize District while Santiago Makin (45’+, 80’) and Dominique Palacios (75’) for the Mid-South.

In overtime, Kenyon Smith made it 4-3 in the 92nd minute but Miguel Canizalez tied it at 4-4 in the 120th minute before the long whistle.

That forced the penalty shootout in which the Belize District prevailed 4-3 on goals by Kenyon Smith, Dixon Gamboa, Jaymion Cacho, and Edward Humes.

Santiago Makin, Carson Torres, and Kevaughn Coc scored for the Mid-South.

Tournament MVP Daniel Cadle received the Golden Ball. Top scorer Keffer Perteau was awarded the Golden Boot. Best goalkeeper Edward Humes got the Golden Gloves award while Brandon Rogers received the Best Defender award.
