The Belize National Rugby Sevens Team will be participating in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens Qualifiers in Nassau, Bahamas on April 23-24.

The tournament, which is the qualifier for the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa in September and The Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England in July, will be played at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau.

Belize will be facing Barbados, Bermuda, and the Dominican Republic in Pool D.

Pool A comprises Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, and British Virgin Islands.

Jamaica, Guyana, Curacao, and the Bahamas are in Pool B

Pool C is made up of Mexico, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos Islands, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

In October 2021, Belize competed in its first international tournament, the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Championship in Turks and Caicos Islands.

The top two men’s teams will qualify to the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022. Additionally, the highest-placed team eligible to participate in The Commonwealth Games 2022 will join Canada who have already pre-qualified.

According to RAN, 15 men’s teams will compete in a round-robin style format in the two-day event. The first round will be played on Day One. The top two sides from each pool qualify to the Cup quarterfinal on day two.

The four teams that win in the quarterfinals will advance to the Cup semi-finals. The winners advance to the Cup final.

Meanwhile, the nations that lose in the quarterfinals will compete for the Plate in 5th place. The two losing sides of the semi-finals will play for 3rd/4th places.

RAN said that on Day Two, the seven remaining teams that did not make the Quarterfinals will compete in one of two round-robin competitions – Shield 1 for the 3rd place finishing pool sides and Shield 2 for the three 4th place pool finishing teams.
