Former Premier of St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador Vance Amory dies at 72

By Benjamin Flowers: Ambassador H.E. Vance Amory, former Premier of Belize’s sister CARICOM nation St. Kitts and Nevis, has died.

Loop News reports that Amory died on April 2 at the age of 72, from an undisclosed cause.

In the wake of his passing, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris were among the first to pay formal respects, taking to social media to pen a tribute to the late two-time premier, who served from 1992-2006 and again from 2013-2017.

“I am very saddened by the passing of Ambassador Vance Amory, my reliable friend, mentor, and advisor, illustrious founding member of #TeamUnity. My condolences are with his loving wife Vernita, his daughters, the rest of his family, and wide circle of friends and well-wishers. The people of #stkittsandnevis have lost our Elder Statesman. May his soul find eternal peace,” Harris said via a Facebook post.

Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards said that Amory would be remembered most for his service to his people, having served as the Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, CCM, which worked jointly with the People’s Action Movement, PAM, and the People Labour Party PLP to work towards unifying the country.

Belize has yet to issue a formal expression of condolences to the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis over their loss.
