Brothers charged with theft; Older sibling given several additional charges and remanded to prison

By BBN Staff: Two brothers, 18-year-old Albert Zetina and 19-year-old Selestino Zetina were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of theft, while the older sibling had several other charges to answer for.

The men are charged with stealing a $500 cellphone from a man on Saturday, April 9. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge and offered bail to Albert Zetina in the sum of $600 plus one surety of the same amount which he was able to meet. Both brothers are due back in court for the theft on June 14, 2022.

Meanwhile, Selestino was additionally charged with one count of robbery and another count of handling stolen goods relating to a $1,000 cell phone stolen from a woman back in December 2021.

The prosecution objected to bail in Selestino’s case citing Section 16-2B of the Crime Control & Criminal Justice Act which binds the Magistrate’s hand in granting bail for offenses of robbery. With that, bail was denied and Selestino was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance relating to the other offenses, which is set for April 28.
