By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 501 Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz one of Belize’s best cyclists is taking stock after the 2022 Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic in which he finished in the sixth position.

All cyclists want to win the Big One, but it’s only a few who really stand a chance. For them, not winning is a tough reality to endure with many feeling they have failed. But on any given day, only one man can win, which means that many a cyclist ends up reliving the race and soul searching. If not well taken, this could drive any man to the point of obsession waiting for the next turn which only comes yearly or can make any cyclist to give up on their hopes.

But Oscar is a strong, determined, and faithful individual who realizes that he will live to see another day.

“I am firm believer in the decisions of the good Lord and with faith I shall continue to trust in him. I’ve learned in the past, I must learn to lose in order to know how to become a better champion,” Oscar wrote in a social media post.

“It is not the losses that matter but rather the bounce back. I’ve thought myself to be consistent and prevail over most obstacles I face! Cross Country is a very important and emotional race for me. Reason when I don’t necessarily win or achieve my goals I set forth in a race, it affects me emotionally, especially Cross Country. Bouncing back has not been the easiest journey but I’m surely seeing progess.”

He says its now time to start over.

“Now that the dust have settled and I’m finally accepting what the good Lord has set forth, it is now time to refocus and reassess my goals moving forward,” said Oscar.

“I believe in consistency and despite CC being one of my main goals it is not the only goal for myself and my team. We have put Belize on the map on several occasions internationally and that is what makes us great champions all together.”

Oscar went on to thank his teammates, his family, fans, and his sponsors who have been behind him and the 501 Valvoline Cyling Team through thick and thin.

“Cycling is more than just a sport, it is a lifestyle! With strength and faith I shall be back to claim what will be mine someday!,” Oscar concluded.
