Regardless of the result of Saturday’s match against invited guests Puerto Rico in the final Group A game in UNCAF U19 FIFA FORWARD Central American Championship, the U19 Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) is already ranked seventh out of the seven Central American countries.
The Central American tournament held here this week is a ranking tournament, so by finishing last in Group A, Belize is already ranked seventh in Central America because our opponents in the last game are not Central Americans. Puerto Rico, as mentioned above, is playing as invited guests. So, a win or loss against Puerto Rico cannot get Belize above seventh place in Central America.
Despite its efforts, Belize lost 2-0 to Honduras and 5-1 to El Salvador, while capturing a 2-2 draw against Nicaragua in the one-week competition and will today play Puerto Rico at 4:15 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
El Salvador topped Group A followed by Nicaragua, Honduras, and Belize in that order.
Costa Rica was first in Group B, followed by Panama, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico.
El Salvador and Costa Rica will decide the top two spots. Nicaragua and Panama will determine the 3rd and 4th places. Honduras and Guatemala will play for fifth and sixth, while Belize and Puerto Rico for seventh and eighth.
