Senator Michael Peyrefitte: Should Commissioner of Police go too?

By Aaron Humes: Despite coming from far, might the job be becoming too much for Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, asked Senator Michael Peyrefitte?

Comparing the situation to that of a team and its general manager and head coach, Peyrefitte said the Belize Police Department has become top-heavy with another Deputy Commissioner recently appointed and up to ten Assistant Commissioners, but the results are not there.

There are an estimated 13 more murders and 11 more major crimes reported from January to April of 2022 compared to 2021 and morale is low.

It is more difficult to ask the Commissioner to stand down compared to the Minister and CEO, who Peyrefitte reminded had all the ideas when in Opposition but have failed to implement them. But the ComPol perhaps needs to look within himself and ask whether someone else can get the job done.
