By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) marked the official launch of the 2022 population and housing census with the observance of Census Day.
The SIB said that the official data collection for the census will begin tomorrow, Friday, May 13, and will run for approximately 10 weeks.
“Over 500 field staff will be deployed across the country and will visit and obtain information from all households, businesses, and institutions. All field staff will be wearing a vest and ID card with the SIB logo. Some teams will be working in vehicles that will also have the SIB and Census logos displayed,” the SIB explained.
The Institute encouraged residents to participate in the Census and be counted, noting that the information from the Census is critical for planning and informed decision-making.
Acting Director-General of the SIB, Diana Castillo-Trejo, explained that the Institute will be releasing a preliminary report from the census data at the end of the year, and several reports from specific thematic areas within the census next year.
Breaking Belize News joins with the SIB to encourage all Belizeans to participate in census 2022, for the good of Belize’s development.
