COVID-19 update: Weekend sees 132 new cases countrywide

By Aaron Humes: There were an average of 44 new cases of COVID-19 daily over the weekend as the recent surge in numbers continues.

132 total new cases were reported by the Ministry of Health and Wellness against 21 new recoveries. There are now 488 active cases with 175 samples under investigation.

The Ministry also reports eight persons hospitalized, though none in intensive care. No new deaths have been recorded so far this month.

Of the new cases, 47 were recorded in Belize City, 20 in San Pedro Town, 13 in Belmopan and nine between San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns.

Elsewhere, Stann Creek District added ten new cases including five in Placencia and four in Hopkins, while Orange Walk District added five total new cases and there were one each in Corozal and Toledo Districts.

Belize has now passed 58 thousand total confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.
