By BBN Staff: An elderly Belize City man was taken to court today, after being caught with over 60 lobsters though lobster season is closed.

Emmeth Barrington Richardson, 66, was caught with 66 lobsters found on him when authorities conducted a search on him on March 3.

However, it is an offense to fish for lobster in Belize between March 1 and June 30 of any year.

Richardson pleaded guilty to the offense and was fined $200 plus $5 cost of court for the offense, he was also fined an additional $1,320 plus another $5 cost of court in relation to each lobster he was found with.

He has until August 3 to pay the entire $1525 or the court will seize his possessions of value and sell them to cover the cost of the fine.
