COVID update: First death in a month reported as 172 new cases added

By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health and Wellness reports 172 new cases of COVID-19 countrywide, leading to concerns about the reinstatement of some public health regulations to bring down the current wave.

Another death has also been reported, of a female from the Cayo District. This is only the second death since May 1 and the 678th overall nationwide. The number of persons hospitalized is down to three.

There were also 111 new recoveries for a net increase of 61 cases to 1,214 active cases and a further 180 samples under investigation.

Belize City reported 63 of 85 new cases in mainland Belize District, with San Pedro Town adding another 21.

In Cayo, there were 32 new cases including 10 in Greater Belmopan (Maya Mopan) and 12 in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

Dangriga added nine of 14 new cases in the Stann Creek District, and Toledo added five including three in Punta Gorda. A total of 15 cases were detected in the Corozal and Orange Walk districts.
