By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sagitun GIRLZ and the San Pedro Pirates drew 1-1 in the final match of the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) A regular season at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday.
Sabrina Eiley hit the opener for the Sagitun GIRLZ in the 10’ but Tamara Baptist responded for the visiting San Pedro Pirates in the 40’ tying the ball game. Despite the efforts by both teams, they couldn’t untangle the web.
Both teams moved up to 11 points, but the standings remained the same.
So, for the semifinals, first-place Jewel Fury will play fourth-place San Pedro Pirates while second-place Rumberas will match with third-place Sagitun GIRLZ.
In the second division NAWL B, the Santa Elena Strikers doubled up on the visiting Corozal United Warriors 9-4 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.
Shamira Oliva scored seven goals in the 25’, 54’, 56’, 65’, 88’, 90’+3, and 90’+5. The other two were converted by Jaline Flores in the 67’ and 75’.
Rashida Mossiah got herself a brace scoring in the 32’ and 61’ for Corozal United Warriors. Clishawn Gibson found the net in the 13’ and Clironie Gibson did likewise in the 54’.
The Strikers moved up to six points finishing fourth while the Corozal United Warriors finished the NAWL B regular season without a point.
In this division semifinals, Bay City will face Santa Elena Strikers while Cayo Dreamers take on Wagiya SC United.
