Meighan brothers back in court; gang affiliation trial adjourned again

Posted: Thursday, June 23, 2022. 12:48 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Ellis and Tyrone Meighan, two of three brothers charged with gang affiliation, appeared in court this week, only to have the prosecution request another adjournment, further delaying the start of their trial.

Prosecutor Dervin Sambula made two applications when the brothers appeared in court on Tuesday, the first is to have the trial commence in absence of the third brother, Shaquile Meighan who is still currently a fugitive, and the second application was for the case to proceed with the brothers being trialed jointly, even though they were charged separately.

Defense attorneys for the Meighan brothers Richard “Dickie” Bradley and Leroy Banner, said that they would not respond with respect to the submissions as they have not received any directive to communicate with the court in any way on Shaquile Meighan’s behalf.

Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson is to rule on submissions next Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

The brothers are among those charged back in August 2021, for making a video for the purpose of gang activity and professing to be a member of a gang.
