‘Execution style murder of Paul Panton was due to business transaction gone wrong,’ Police say

By Benjamin Flowers: Police say that 59-year-old Paul Panton who was shot to the back of the head this morning may have been killed by persons whom he had a recent business arrangement with.

Panton was at the Cinderella Plaza Taxi Stand at 6:00 a.m. when he got a call to pick up a passenger on Hart Street. Not long after, police found him dead.

Communications director for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that the placement of the gunshot injury suggests that the would-be passenger boarded the vehicle and then shot Panton.

“We have received several tips so far and we are even following up some information that he may have been involved in some form of business with a family that is very upset right now. The information would want to suggest that this is as a result of some form of business that went bad between him and those other parties,” Yearwood said.

He went on to say that police are currently looking for Panton’s cellphone and are working with telecom companies to try and find out who made the call to him. Officers are also reviewing surveillance footage from security cameras in the area to see what evidence, if any, was captured.
