Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman Of The Week is Renata Samuels

Posted: Wednesday, June 29, 2022. 9:49 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceno features outstanding Belizean women making a difference in Belize each week.

This week’s spotlight is on the host of Channel 7’s Morning Show, Renata Samuels.

Samuels uses this national platform to address controversial issues such as good governance, gender-based violence, inclusion for all, mental health, and climate change to name a few.

Her passions include lobbying for youth to be a part of the decision-making process. As part of her work with and for youth, she has held positions in the National Youth Council of Belize and the Belize District Youth Council.

In 2017, she helped draft Galen University’s first-ever Student Government Constitution, whilst holding the position of Vice President.

In 2018, she supported UNICEF and the Ministry of Health in carrying out one of the first mental health studies in Belize, called “Helping Adolescents Thrive”, and presented the study’s findings in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2019, she facilitated a series of countrywide focus groups and helped revamp the National Youth Policy of Belize.

Today, Samuels uses her social media accounts to inform peers on mental health issues and advocate for youth to be part of the solution. She manages several projects with UNICEF as their appointed Youth Advocate where she highlights young people and promotes community participation with youth leading the charge.

Renata holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and is presently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management. She hopes to create more productive workplaces that are inclusive and conducive to the development of people from all walks of life.

Renata’s long-term aspiration is to become the first female Prime Minister of Belize.
