By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Support the BBQ Fundraiser being organized by Elaine Berry in San Ignacio on Saturday, July 16, to help her daughter, 26-year-old Kashine Berry, suffering from a relapse of cervical cancer get her tests, chemotherapy, and radiation done.

If you like to collaborate, place your orders for the barbeque chicken by calling Elaine at 602-3348 or Kashine at 626-2654.

The plate will include a leg or breast served with tortilla, homemade baked beans, and coleslaw. Going for $8.00 in front of the Puma Gas Station otherwise known as the Chuc Gas Station on Bullet Tree Road.

Elaine says her daughter Kashine was diagnosed with cervical cancer in May 2021. She underwent a radical hysterectomy and chemotherapy. Everything was ok until she relapsed one year later, this past May.

“She had a reoccurrence of the same cervical cancer and this time it came with a vengeance because it came with a severe blood clot in her right leg that had her in the hospital in Belmopan for 10 days. Her right kidney was about to collapse on her,” said Elaine Berry.

“Right about we’re trying to kill ten birds with one stone. She’s now getting treatment for the blood clot so that pain is dying down very fast, and praise God because she was in severe pain in the hospital in Belmopan for ten days. She has already taken two chemo in Belize City through Dr Yacab, the oncologist at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. She is going for her third chemo on the 21st of July, and she’ll be going back to do another CAT scan to see how the kidney is recuperating … and with that finding she will more than likely be going to Belize Medical Associates to put a tube in her kidney to save it.”

Elaine said that if all goes well, she will then have to take Kishane to Campeche, Mexico for radiation.

“We have to go for consultation first, come back and then get a date for her radiation. So, we’re doing it in steps,” she said.

Their aim is to raise between $20,000 to $30,000.

“We need like $20,000 to $30,000 to cover everything – chemo, kidney, the radiation in Campeche, the travelling, everything.”

“So, we’re starting off with a barbeque on Saturday. We’ll see how often we can do the barbeque. We need your assistance to see if we can target that amount of money,” Elaine said.
