Sign up to learn to play the ancient Maya game, Pok ta pok, at Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize are three-peat world champions of the ancient Maya game of Pok ta Pok. The Belize Ek’ Balam Team won its third consecutive world championship last December in Merida, Mexico.

If you are 13 to 29 years of age, here’s your opportunity to learn to play the game.

Though the deadline is July 21, you might want to sign up at Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk as soon as possible since spaces are limited.

“We are looking for committed males and females from each town ages 13-29 years,” said an announcement on social media by the Banquitas House of Culture.

Training will be conducted in both Orange Walk and Corozal. Training in Orange Walk will run from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm from Monday to Friday from July 25 to August 8. Training in Corozal will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on the following Saturdays: July 30, August 6, 13, and 20.
