By Rubén Morales Iglesias: On Wednesday, Belizean cattle farmers in Northern Belize exported a total of 270 head of cattle from Kakabish, Orange Walk, to the Su Karne company in Mexico.
In total, that’s 154,560 pounds of live weight.
According to Belarmino Esquivel, Principal Agriculture Officer and Livestock Director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE), that amounts to an economic contribution of approximately Bz$365,000.00 to the Belizean economy. So far in 2022, a total of 5,176 head of cattle have been exported to the tune of BZ$6,667,000, according to Esquivel.
Belizean cattle farmers have been exporting through the Belize Livestock Producers Association to the Mexican importing company Su Karne since 2021.
