By Breaking Belize News Staff:A Belize City man will be spending the next five years in prison after he was found guilty of burglary in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today.
Forty-three-year-old Richard Collect Ferguson, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser, after police picked him up on a bench warrant for not meeting his court dates.
Ferguson was accused of breaking into his cousin’s house, stealing a gas tank, regulator, and hose, to a total value of $115.
He appeared unrepresented and changed his initial plea of not guilty to a plea of guilty.
The Chief Magistrate told Ferguson that, while she has discretionary powers to impose a fine, she decided on prison time as he has as many as five previous charges for crimes of dishonesty.
