John McAfee’s ex-girlfriend says he is ‘still alive’

Posted: Wednesday, August 24, 2022. 9:04 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Netflix documentary on the infamous software pioneer, John McAfee entitled “Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee” arrived on Netflix today.

And while, McAfee was reported to have committed suicide inside a Spanish prison in June, 2021, his Belizean ex-girlfriend Samantha Herrera says that McAfee faked his own death and moved to Texas, the New York Post reports.

“I don’t know if I should say, but two weeks ago, after his death, I got a call from Texas: ‘It’s me, John. I paid off people to pretend that I am dead, but I am not dead,’” Herrera claimed in the documentary.

According to Herrera, McAfee told her that only 3 people in the world knew the truth and that he asked her to run away with him.

Herrera says that when she was 18 years old, she met McAfee since he was living in San Pedro. They began dating and planned to get married but in 2012, they fled Belize after the suspicious death of his next-door neighbor, Gregory Faull.

In the documentary, Herrera noted that “His side of the story is that they’re after him because he didn’t pay off the government. They wanted to hurt him, to get rid of him.”

After he was detained in Spain, McAfee tweeted that if he died in jail, it wouldn’t be his own doing.
