Karl H. Menzies and Company closes doors on Wednesday; transitions to digital ecosystem BelizeON

By Aaron Humes: One of Belize’s iconic storefront names is closing its doors on Wednesday, but its owner says it is transforming as much as it is transitioning.

Karl H. Menzies and Company Limited, funded by the eponymous Karl and Dorothy Menzies in 1969, is shutting down on Wednesday; however, its products and services continue to be available through the online marketplace BelizeOn, founded in 2019.

BelizeOn hosts what is known as a “digital ecosystem” comprising of e-commerce site BelizeOn.bz which hosts local and imported products; the food delivery app BelizeOn D’Way; and the door-to-door delivery service BelizeOn Dropbox, together serving more than 3,600 customers with more than 2,000 products and services.

Company chair and owner Kay Menzies says her father would be proud to see the ingenuity of the new franchise: “while the Karl H. Menzies’ name won’t be at the forefront, the company’s 53 years of experience and essence – its DNA – will be present in this new chapter for the business.”

So, while the physical storefront on Barrack Road closes down on Wednesday, August 31, customers can still conveniently shop for their favourite alcohol and paint products online at www.belizeon.bz and have it delivered to their door countrywide via BelizeON’s other services. In the meantime, the company begins transforming its iconic 104 Barrack Road location in Belize City into a central hub for its BelizeON Dropbox business where customers will be able to visit the office and let BelizeON handle all their nationwide shipping needs.
