Belize Weather: A showery Tenth Day

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Moist and unstable conditions prevail on this St. George’s Caye Day Saturday, according to the National Meteorological Service.

Skies today will be cloudy with sunny breaks. Periods of rain, showers and isolated thunderstorms will occur mainly over coastal and offshore areas this morning, moving north and inland by midday, decreasing. Tonight, skies will be overcast with an increase in showery activity starting in the south and spreading elsewhere.

High temperatures will reach 87 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 91 degrees in inland areas and 76 degrees in the hills. Temperatures tonight fall to 76 degrees along the coast, 72 degrees inland and 67 degrees in the hills.

Winds are easterly to southeasterly at 10 to 20 knots. The seas start at light chop to choppy, becoming choppy to moderate, with wave heights of two to six feet.

A flood watch is in effect for possible localized flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. A small craft caution is in effect for gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms. A strong thunderstorm watch is in effect for possible severe lightning, damaging wind and heavy rainfall late in the night and early morning over the next couple of days.

Tides will be high at 9:46 this morning and 10:19 tonight and low at 4:26 this afternoon. The sun sets at 5:58 this evening and rises at 5:40 Sunday morning.

On Sunday skies will be cloudy to overcast, with showers,rain and a few thunderstorms, decreasing during the afternoon before redeveloping in the night over most places.
