By Ruben Morales Iglesias: Progresso who have fared off better against stronger teams let go of a great opportunity to improve their position in the Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) standings and only managed a 2-2 draw against last-place Belmopan Bandits in the Opening Championship.

For the Bandits, who’ve had their worst start ever, the draw was an achievement of sorts as it earned them their second point in eight games.

They actually scored first as Roger Parham netted the ball in the 13’.

However, Progresso bounced back and tied the game on a goal by Marcos Alvarez in the 38’. The Bandits responded and went ahead again in the 69’ when Ajani Banner put them up 2-1.

But Progresso was not about to fall at home like Benque Viejo United, Wagiya, and Port Layola and managed to equalize through the efforts of the top goalscorer Zamir Bonilla, who now has four in the 81’.

The 2-2 draw improved Progresso’s points tally to 11, the same as Wagiya, but they remain in the fifth position since the Dangriga club has a better goal difference.
