Security supervisor busted with two guns from her company; Remanded to prison for at least 90 days

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A woman who works as a supervisor for a security company has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after she was caught with two guns and ammunition from her job.

Thirty-seven-year-old Merlene Agneta Clark, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday where she was charged with two counts of keeping a firearm without a gun license and one count of keeping ammunition without a license.

In court, Clark pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate explained that, due to the nature of the offenses, bail could not be granted at the lower court before 90 days.

Clark is due back in court on November 21.

Allegations are that on September 20, police responded to a call of a woman standing outside of a house on Pigeon Street with a gun in her knapsack. When police arrived at the scene, Clark was there with two .9mm pistols and 11 live rounds of ammunition, for which she explained she has a license to carry because she works at a security firm.

Sources say that officers decided to charge Clark because her license dictates specific areas that she is allowed to be in possession of firearms, but she was found outside the scope of what is legally allowed.
