Man who burglarized sports bar in Mahogany Heights caught by the bar owner with the items in his possession

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Mahogany Heights man is out on bail after being charged with stealing items from a sports bar in the village.

Forty-year-old Sheldon Lewis appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, answering to a single charge of burglary.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to the offense and since there was no objection to bail, it was granted to him in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet.

The bar owner, former Senior Superintendent of Police Simeon Alvarez, explained that on October 8, his daughter alerted him to the fact that a man was in their yard while he was away.

Alvarez said that the following day, after learning that his bar had been burglarized, and a number of items were stolen to a total value of $340, he saw the same man with the stolen items in a green bucket.

Lewis is due back in court on December 12.
